Who doesn't want their shanty to be a bit savvy, a bit clever, creative, a bit sensible, sharp and ingenious?! But hey, let's face it, most of us are living on a shoestring. Here's how I'm doing it my way, making our nest a Savvy Shanty.

Songs For A Winter's Night

My Winter Continent , all shiny and silver
A collection of silver trays, mercury glass, cloches and apocrathy jars.

So, the sign that is hanging above the door in the back ground, reads PISA, as in the leaning tower of...

If you follow my blog, you've heard me say that I struggle to decorate this area because I can't see over anything. I'm a whole 5'2" and the continent is bar top height. The back side of the counter where I do 99% of the prep work cooking is the new standard counter height which is higher than previous counters. Good thing I'm not a baker, I'd never be able to roll out any dough.

Here you can see the view from my kitchen into our family room. This vignette allows me decorate it a plenty and still see what the heck is going on. You know, or carry on a conversation with folks sitting on the other side of the bar.

Well I'd like to add more pics but my computer and/or blogger is being a pain in the bum so I'm gonna pull the trigger and call this one done. Hope you are staying warm.
Enjoy,
ginger

Chicken Fried

I'd like to introduce the newest member of our family, Granny the Chicken. She comes to us from Jax, Fl. She has previously served as a door stop on Halloween and has experienced many coats of paint. She also has served many years as yard art. She wears her many coats of flaking paint like a badge of honor and does not believe in latex surgery thus preferring to age gracefully. She has been admired by her now owner for many years and is happy to now reside inside, out of the elements. She will live out her remaining years as kitchen manager, overseeing the daily activities in the kitchen of Savvy Shanty. Today she supervised the canning of peppers.

Enjoy,
ginger
