Who doesn't want their shanty to be a bit savvy, a bit clever, creative, a bit sensible, sharp and ingenious?! But hey, let's face it, most of us are living on a shoestring. Here's how I'm doing it my way, making our nest a Savvy Shanty.

Beauty School Dropout.

Yup, this is what our homeschooling room looks like after a summer of shenanigans! One hot mess! While we continued learning throughout the summer, we were on a modified version that was done at the kitchen island. Which left this room open for a dumping ground. Ahhck! Well school is back in session and we have added a new student to our one room school house, thus requiring some organization and rearranging. Now of course I thought to take pictures half way through the process. And when I say design on a dime, well that would have been a luxury, this was design on no dime, use what you have, make it work People!

After I had moved the desk from the wall, I remembered to take pictures! Oh me and my impatience!

This desk was previously up against the wall, I had to come up with something new to accommodate three students opposed to two.

Which opened up this wall for props.

Ohh, look, we can get to the shelves! What a concept?!

These are the shelves that were cluttered and blocked, broke them down and ran them along the wall of windows. These sit behind the desk where I can get to all of our supplies.

And this is where I found Miss Priss reading her bible in our new, uncluttered, classroom. Ahhh.....

Enjoy,

She's an American Girl!

So for Miss Priss's birthday this year, she requested an American Girl/Unicorn/Rainbow slumber party. Quite the theme! And believe you me I wasn't going to shell out the $$$$ for one at the AG store  was determined to come up with something fun and creative. So here you go, enjoy!

Tiny food shaped erasers picked up at Walmart for  .25 cents for two. Check, that's in the budget.

Tiny American Girl size cakes made. And teapot crafts we made for the girls to put all their "food" in after the party.

Found a basic cake ball recipe. If you aren't familiar with it, just google it, there are a ton of recipes out there.

I made sleeping bags from two pieces of fleece, cut with slits around the edge and tied together. (That is what is rolled up in front of each place setting.)

Those of you that know Jen over at  http://www.socialsalutations.blogspot.com/, this is her daughter decorating her sleeping bag. I ordered flowers and butterflies from Oriental Trading that were self adhesive for the girls to decorate with.
Here is the link for the butterflies and flowers:

Here is Miss Priss decorating her sleeping bag. Also used the butterflies and flowers as table decorations until we did the craft.

And the four Little's with their completed sleeping bags.

One deliriously happy birthday girl who told me that "This was the best birthday party in the world! Especially because there were no boys!"

And for breakfast, blueberry muffins both in regular size and American girl size.

As for the rainbows and unicorns, they came in to play on plates/napkins and a pin the horn on a unicorn game. She saw them and had to have them. After pizza, crafts, mini-cakes, and presents they all adjourned to the the playroom with all of their dolls and played. We topped the night off with popcorn and an American Girl movie. Then of course they stayed up and giggled til midnight!

Enjoy,

Put Your Big Girl Socks On!

So the weather here in Georgia has finally dropped to slightly below hell sweltering and by slightly I mean it is only 85 when we wake up in the morning verses 95! But hey, I'll take what I can get. And the slight dip in temp has got my knitting fingers just an itching! I can see it now, we will be sitting by the fire, pot of soup simmering on the stove and as my friend Jen and I call it, "strang" (read in your most southern accent) all nestled around our feet!

Last year I learned how to knit socks, which is kinda addictive because the "strang" is so dang pretty! Lots and lots of yummy colors. The tricky part is you knit them on basically 4 toothpicks. And they don't go quick but they sure are snugly and worth the work. Above was my first sock I finished. The other pics are a couple of neck goodies I made.

Well until the leaves change and it's time to put the flip flops away, I'll be at the pool thinking about my next "strang" project!

Enjoy,

Goody Two Shoes, Goody Goody Two Shoes!

So my very good friend, Jen was approaching her birthday and her husband decided to reenact the scene from the Sex In The City movie where Sarah Jessica Parker walks into her dream closet Mr Big has made for her. My assistance was requested when it came to the "foofing" of the closet, the girly part of it. All of this was to be done secret agent style while she was at work; everything was bought day of reveal and due to some scheduling issues, all goodies were bought sight unseen via text and phone convos with her husband. Oh and it all was design on a dime budget.  Unfortunately we don't have any before pics, but visualize a closet where the carpet color was unknown due to the giant pile of shoes in a giant orgy with a mass of pocket purses. The above picture was taken when I walked in upon installation of the shoe racks.

Baskets contain bathing suits, scarves and wigs. Tray for setting goodies on.

Feet Jewels!!

Notice the stool in the mirror reflection, perfect spot to sit and put on all these little feet jewels!

Yes, those are wigs poking out of the basket. Jen is crazy cute and super fun!

"The Art of Happiness" book.

Needless to say, she was crazy excited when she came home from work on her birthday and went to put her shoes away. Think I might of even heard her squeal all the way down the street! Happy Birthday my sweet Friend! Here's to many more!

Enjoy!
